Canva is an online graphic design tool that was founded in 2012 by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams. The trio had previously founded Fusion Books, an online tool that allowed students to design their yearbooks. While working on Fusion Books, the founders noticed how difficult it was for non-designers to create professional-looking graphics. They realized there was a gap in the market for a simple, user-friendly graphic design tool, and thus, Canva was born.
Since its launch, Canva has grown exponentially, with more than 40 million users in 190 countries worldwide. The platform offers a vast library of templates, images, and design elements that users can customize to create anything from social media posts to business cards to presentations. In 2019, Canva acquired two companies, Pexel and Kaleido, to expand its offerings and make it easier for users to find high-quality images.
In terms of revenue, Canva is valued at $15 billion as of 2021, making it one of the most valuable privately-owned companies in the world. It is predicted that by 2023, the number of Canva users will reach 50 million, further solidifying its position as a leader in the graphic design industry. With its intuitive interface and endless design possibilities, it’s no surprise that Canva has become the go-to tool for non-designers and professionals alike.
